Handicare Freecurve
This attractive system has a tubular, single rail system that allows the curved stairlift to fit on the narrowest of stairs and navigate the tightest bends. The Freecurve is also uniquely customisable, allowing the stairlift to fit in with any home or décor.
Introducing The Handicare Freecurve
Stylish compact design
The Handicare Freecurve features a sleek, single tubular rail design—the narrowest monorail on the market at less than 8cm in diameter. This compact design allows it to navigate the tightest bends while leaving plenty of free space on the staircase for other users. To maximize room in hallways, the seat, footrest, and armrests can all be folded away when not in use. The seat includes a manual swivel as standard, with an optional powered swivel to automatically turn you toward the landing for a safe exit. Additionally, the Freecurve is equipped with safety sensors that stop the lift immediately if it encounters any obstruction on the stairs.
Handicare Freecurve Auto Hinge
Safe, strong and reliable
The robust Freecurve drive unit features two drive motors and is designed so that overspeed is impossible, making a safety brake unnecessary. The system is powered by two 12V batteries and charges whenever it is parked to keep the batteries fully powered. In the event of a power cut, the lift remains reliable and is capable of providing 10 uninterrupted trips. The lift is fully certified to international safety standards, including EN 81-40, and is suitable for users up to a maximum weight of 125kg.
Powered Hinged Rail
For rails terminating in front of a door, the Freecurve can be fitted with a hinged rail that automatically folds out of the way while the chair is ascending the stairs. The electrically-operated folding rail is controlled using the joystick on the chair or the remotes. To ensure safety, a plastic cover protects the toothbar when the rail is folded, and an audio signal sounds as a warning when the hinge is in motion.
Flexible Joystick
The Freecurve features a flexible joystick that is operable independent of a user's handicap and designed without obstructions for clothing. For safety, it acts as a "dead man's handle," meaning the chair lift stops automatically if the control is released. The joystick on the chair has priority over wall buttons, ensuring the user is always in control. This single control operates multiple functions, including the run of the lift, the folding hinge, and the optional powered swivel.
Turn and Go / 2-Way Powered Swivel
The two-way powered swivel option is a unique solution where no overrun is required on the top floor. This is ideal for homes where the stairlift might otherwise block a doorway at the top of the stairs or create a tripping hazard. By swiveling automatically at both the top and bottom, it allows for a safe landing and exit even in restricted spaces.

FAQs Handicare Freecurve
How much space does the rail take up on my stairs?
The Handicare Freecurve uses a single tubular rail that is just 76mm in diameter. This compact design is engineered to leave more room on the stairs for other users, and the seat, armrests, and footrest all fold up separately when the lift is not in use to maximize available space.
What happens if I lose power while using the stairlift?
The Freecurve is highly reliable during power outages because it is powered by two 12V batteries. These batteries charge whenever the lift is parked, ensuring you can still complete up to 10 uninterrupted trips even during a temporary power cut.
Can a curved stairlift be installed if I have a door at the bottom of the stairs?
Yes, for rails that terminate in front of a doorway, we can fit a powered hinged rail. This section of the track automatically folds out of the way while the chair is ascending, ensuring your hallway remains clear and the door remains accessible when the lift is parked.
Is the Freecurve suitable for very narrow or complex staircases?
Absolutely. The Freecurve is designed to handle complex curved stairs and can navigate the tightest internal bends in the industry. For exceptionally narrow stairs, we offer a two-way powered swivel option that allows the seat to turn automatically at both the top and bottom, enabling a safe exit even where no rail overrun is possible.
